About the prize:

The purpose of the ifa Research Award on Foreign Cultural Policy is to honour a doctoral thesis which covers a topic relating to culture and foreign policy in an outstanding manner, providing a fresh impulse to research in this area.
The amount of the ifa Research Award on Foreign Cultural Policy is €3,000. The award ceremony will take place in Stuttgart.

Application date: 31 March 2019

Who can apply?

It is not possible for candidates to apply for the ifa Research Award on Foreign Cultural Policy. A recommendation by a professor from a university in a member state of the European Union is necessary, in combination with two assessments prepared during the examination procedure.

What is funded?

The thesis must have been accepted as a doctoral thesis in an EU country between 1st January and 31st December 2018. Theses published in this period can also be submitted. The place of publication may be outside the EU if the thesis has been accepted in an EU country.

It must be written in German or in English. The topic discussed should be of relevance for the actual practice of foreign cultural policy.

What to include in the application?

Please send the cover letter and both assessments (in German or English) together with two copies of the thesis – these will be incorporated into the ifa Library holdings – to: Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen, z. Hd. Gudrun Czekalla, Charlottenplatz 17, 70173 Stuttgart; or bundled in a PDF, addressed to: forschungspreis(at), until 31st March 2019.
