We believe that artistic work introduces diverse and often new perspectives on questions relating to both the future and the past.

That is why we curate, sponsor, and realise exhibitions focusing on the fine arts, design and architecture: from the history of the Bauhaus to contemporary photography, from artworks examining conditions in postcolonial societies to works providing an up-to-date glimpse of the potential of upcycling. In doing so, we are creating thematic areas that are equally relevant for many areas of the world. Getting people to meet each other and more involved in the arts and artistic concepts are at the very core of our work. In the arts department at ifa, we promote this artistic and cultural exchange through our programmes in the ifa Gallery Stuttgart and the ifa Gallery Berlin, through exhibitions worldwide, artists' contacts and exhibition funding as well as through our programmes for biennials and conferences.

Exhibitions Worldwide

With its diverse exhibition and event programmes on contemporary art, the ifa links the German art scene with internationally active cultural creators and forms cooperations and networks. The projects, which are often developed in co-creation, generate local meeting platforms, allow international perspectives on topics of global relevance and provide well-stocked repositories of information. The ifa also provides loan exhibits to interested museums.
