The five artists in the exhibition come from landscapes shaped by colonialism. From their inquiry into the interrelations between past, present, and future, which are deeply connected with each other, they decided to reclaim a “contradictory and contradictory diversity” that can challenge the universalising and hegemonic gaze that has historically conceived their realities. Their newl artworks seek to highlight diverse, dynamic, and contradictory perspectives in the sense of the abigarrado, a term that goes back to the Aymara sociologist and activist Silvia Rivera Cusicanqui. They open narrative strands of history and reconnect them, following the assumption that contradictory truths can emerge from the collision of contradictions. In this continuous exploration, each movement is an invitation to a deeper understanding of a mutating world.

ifa Galleries

Thw ifa Galleries in Stuttgart und Berlin present contemporary art from  a global point of view. The work of the ifa Galleries is based on seeing the world from a diversity and plurality of perspectives, discovering new stories, and shaping emancipatory processes, interactions, and artistic spaces. Our focus is on long-term relationships with artists, partners, and visitors, and our exhibitions and education programmes are developed through practices of collaboration that trace global entanglements and piece them together in new forms of narrative.
