Dim Corners

2033 Johannesburg

OtherNetwork is an experiment in creating a new type of cultural institution that connects independent art spaces through digital infrastructure, research, events, editorial content as well as an exhibition series. In this context this new touring exhibition format is planned as an relay, where (at least) two art spaces join forces as host and guest under the umbrella of the OtherNetwork project. Each guest institution automatically becomes the host for the next round, invites a guest institution and so on.

"Dim Corners" is the result of a curatorial collaboration between Pivô, an art space from São Paulo, and the collective Nothing Gets Organised - NGO from Johannesburg, where the exhibition is being shown. It is a dialogue between two artists who didn't know each other but share similar concerns while speaking about the Global South from different perspectives.
With new works, Brazilian artist Leticia Ramos and South African artist Zen Marie address the frequent shortage of energy in cities, weaving a narrative that intertwines the immediate physical impact with the broader, insidious issues of climate change and environmental racism. Ramos and Marie expose the socio-economic and environmental crises that underlie these blackouts, urging viewers to confront the realities that often remain in the dark.

Exhibitions worldwide

With over 20 touring exhibitions currently travelling across the globe and with its diverse event programmes on contemporary art, the ifa links the German art scene with internationally active cultural creators and forms cooperations and networks. The projects, many of which were developed in co-creation with local partners, cover the various disciplines of modern and contemporary fine arts – from current themes in architecture, photography and design to Bauhaus and monographic exhibitions such as Rosemarie Trockel or Marcel Odenbach. These projects generate local meeting platforms and allow international perspectives on topics of global relevance. The ifa also provides loan exhibits to interested museums.
