Nietzsche and India

A Philosophy of World Relations

26 Sep 2024
19:00 - 20:30
ifa Gallery Stuttgart
Charlottenplatz 17
70173 Stuttgart

Friedrich Nietzsche, like many intellectuals of the 19th century, was intensively involved with India. His encounter with Indian culture and philosophy is just as fascinating as the popularity of his person and his work in India today. Petra Vogler has followed the traces of this phenomenon and decodes it in dialogue with the philosopher Babu Thaliath

Prof Dr Babu Thaliath works at the interface of German studies and philosophy and is a professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. He completed his doctorate from 1999 to 2002 under Professor Klaus Jacobi at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg. After completing his doctorate, he carried out research at Humboldt University in Berlin and at the University of Cambridge, as well as at the International College Morphomata in Cologne.

Dr Petra S. Vogler is a lecturer and researcher in cultural and educational studies. After completing her doctorate at the Faculty of Philosophy at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, she completed her postdoctoral studies in Indian philosophy with mentors from the universities of Harvard, Delhi and Berlin. Since 2021, she has dedicated herself to the study of Tibetan Buddhism.
The programme will be framed by a dance performance by Kunal Jamsandekar, who, in addition to his career as a Germanist, is also an expert in classical Indian dance.
The evening is part of the week-long event programme ‘Titanenkämpfe - ein Nietzsche-Theater-Festival’ initiated and directed by Boris Rodriguez-Hauck.
