Artist Talk with Yael Bartana

Summer of the arts

17 Oct 2024
18:30 - 19:30
Staatsgalerie, Metzler hall
Konrad-Adenauer-Str. 30-32
70173 Stuttgart

A conversation between artist Yael Bartana, curator of the Staatsgalerie (state gallery) Susanne Kaufmann-Valet and the Secretary General of the ifa Gitte Zschoch.

Born in Afula (Israel) in 1970, the artist Yael Bartana now lives in Amsterdam and Berlin and explores themes such as national identity, trauma and displacement. At the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, Bartana is showing her works in dialogue with works by Max Ernst, allowing her "Spaceship", which will also occupy the German Pavilion at the Venice Biennale until November 2024, to land between its surreal worlds. Bartana poses the pressing question of how the future can be managed in the face of current political and social crises.

Yael Bartana in conversation with Gitte Zschoch, Secretary General of ifa, and curator Dr Susanne Kaufmann-Valet. Welcome by Prof. Dr Christiane Lange, Director of the Staatsgalerie. The talk will be preceded by a guided tour by the curators.

Free admission with an entry ticket to the Staatsgalerie. More information on admission and the programme on the website of the Staatsgalerie.
