Over the last 20 years, the power of cultural and creative industries (CCIs) as enablers and drivers of sustainable development has been broadly recognised. They are viewed as critical to social cohesion, social and economic transformation, and political stability. For this reason, it is important to explore and analyse what kind of CCI supporting strategies, programmes and projects are in place in sub-Saharan Africa, how they are working and their practical impacts. In this online debate co-hosted with EUNIC, panelists will discuss the findings of the Creative Industries Supporting Activities in Sub-Saharan Africa research report with the authors Kimani Njogu (Kenya) and Pedro Affonso Ivo Franco (Brazil).
Panelists include Joy Mboya, Managing Director, The GoDown Arts Centre Nairobi, Amira Elfadil, Commissioner for Social Affairs, African Union (tbc), Emanuela Gregorio, Economist, Gender, Innovation & Creative Industries, African Development Bank Group (tbc), Giorgio Ficcarelli, Head of Cultural Section in the Directorate General of International Cooperation and Development, European Commission, and Peter Kettner, Head of Strategy and Planning at the Culture Department, German Federal Foreign Office.
