IJAB – International Youth Service of the Federal Republic of Germany
As a central specialist agency for international youth policy and international youth work, IJAB works on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, the IJAB member organisations and other central bodies responsible for youth work. Its task is to strengthen and further develop international youth work and the cooperation in the field of youth policy. These open up to young people opportunities for education, personality development and participation in an increasingly globalised world. With its work, the specialist agency contributes to mutual understanding among young people from different countries and cultures, promotes the acquisition of intercultural skills, and supports non-formal education processes. It strengthens the international transfer of knowledge in the field of child and youth services thus generating new impetus for the latter. IJAB provides information and counselling for youth organisations, policy-makers and administrations and offers qualification and international exchange to child and youth services specialists. It informs young people about funding programmes and provides advice to them on the varied offers to go abroad.
Since 1989, the German Agency "YOUTH for Europe" has been attached to IJAB. YOUTH for Europe implements the EU Programme "YOUTH IN ACTION" (2007 - 2013) in Germany on behalf of the German Youth Ministry and the European Commission.
