Culture Action Europe (CAE) is a European network of cultural organisations and individuals, dedicated to promoting culture as a necessary condition for sustainable development both at local and European scale. In an on-going action, CAE is seeking signers for a manifesto that calls on EU policymakers to ensure that 1% of the budget of each EU policy field is allocated to culture, and that the budget for culture be doubled.

CAE names culture as the foundation of European unity, as playing a crucial role in upholding common European values, and as a pillar of sustainable societies. In regard to the former, CAE cites evidence "on the positive impact of culture on health and well‐being, social cohesion and equality, education, promotion of democratic principles, external relations, alongside with growth and jobs, research and innovation."

CAE’s petition comes at a time when polarising trends in Europe are on the uptake, putting diversity at stake.
