Music and visual arts are the two facets of Mazen Kerbaj’s work. In the frame of his exhibition ‘In the Presence / Absence of Mazen Kerbaj’ at ifa Gallery Berlin the series ‘Mazen Kerbaj invites X + one’ takes place. In the concert series Kerbaj invites of his close collaborators in Berlin, asking her or him to bring along another musician. The name of the second guest will remain unrevealed to Kerbaj and to the audience until the joint concert. On 23 April, the musician Tony Buck brings along a guest to the concert with Kerbaj.
Tony Buck works as a drummer, percussionist, improviser, guitarist, video maker and producer. He is a member of the trio The Necks and has been involved in diverse tourings, recordings and other projects worldwide. He is active in different communities and festivals and creates video works for use with live music performance. Currently he is working on a solo adaption of his album ‘UNEARTH’ and a a guitar driven post-rock project.

They have been addressing contemporary art and current cultural and socio-political developments in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe since 1971 in Stuttgart and since 1990 in Berlin. Exhibition series afford insight into art scenes all over the world and reach across national borders. Conversations, lectures and discussions allow visitors direct contact with artists and curators.
