Professor Dr Dr hc Ulrich Raulff
As of 1 October 2018, Professor Dr. Dr. h. c. Ulrich Rauff will be President of the ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen).
Ulrich Raulff was born in Hülseberg near Meinerzhagen in 1950. He studied philosophy and history in Marburg, Frankfurt and Paris, earning his PhD in 1977. From 1978 to 1993 he was a freelance translator and employee of several German publishing companies, newspapers and TV stations. As a scholarship holder of the Volkswagen Stiftung and the Thyssen Stiftung, he qualified as a professor in Cultural Studies at the Humboldt-Universität of Berlin in 1995. From 1994 to 2001 he was a literary editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), from 1997 chief literary editor, and from 2001 to 2004 he was senior literary editor of the Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ). In November 2004 Ulrich Raulff became the director of the German Literature Archive Marbach.
Ulrich Raulff is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Goethe-Institut, of the Deutsche Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung, of the Academic Advisory Board of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin and of the Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften.
He was awarded the Anna Krüger Prize of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin for scientific prose (1996), the Hans Reimer Prize of the Aby-Warburg-Stiftung in Hamburg (1997), the prize of the Leipzig Book Fair for non-fiction (2010) and the Ernst Robert Curtius Prize for Essay Writing (2013). In 2012 he was awarded an Honorary PhD from the University of Stuttgart and in 2013 the Order of Merit (First class) of the Federal Republic of Germany.
