Blessed in Rio de Janeiro: New Year's Eve at the Copacabana
Lavish fireworks and crowded beaches: New Year's Eve in Rio is celebrated with a loud and happy party. But many Brazilians don't just celebrate the New Year, but also the goddess Iemanjá. In her honor they go into the ocean seven times. "That is not always easy", says Ronald Grätz. The General Secretary of ifa experienced the "Festa de Iemanjá" in 1988.
Ronald Grätz was born in São Paulo in 1958. Since 2008 he is Secretary General of ifa. He studied German literature, Catholic theology and philosophy in Tübingen and Frankfurt am Main and has worked as a teacher at schools abroad and for the Goethe-Institut in Barcelona, Moscow, Lisbon and Munich.
