OtherNetwork is an experiment in creating a new type of cultural institution that connects independent art spaces through digital infrastructure, research, events, editorial content as well as an exhibition series. In the context of ifas touring exhibition programme this new format is planned as an exhibition relay, where (at least) two art spaces join forces as host and guest under the umbrella of the OtherNetwork project. Each guest institution automatically becomes the host for the next round, invites a guest institution and so on.

In 2023 FCA Ghana invited the Johannesburg based curator's collective Nothing Gets Organised - NGO for the exhibition.

About the exhibition

Grappling with a certain intimate disorganisation within conditions of the Black Outside, the curatorial project 'D̶e̶l̶a̶y̶and Encounter and/or Other Proximate Unknowns' brings together six artistic positions that think about sonicity and Black study, built environments and spatial discourse, ecologies, processes of collectivity, and archiving. From this vantage point, outside denotes a particular spatio-temporal disposition. The Black Outside can thus be understood as a paradoxical assemblage of malleable and contingent forms of being, doing, occupying, and inhabiting. The exhibition is speculating with and alongside the figure of W.E.B. Du Bois.

The project includes responses from internationally-based artists and collectives including Jabu Arnell, Ola Hassanain, Nii Noi Nortey, Natalie Paneng, room19isaFactory., Luana Vitra. 'D̶e̶l̶a̶y̶and Encounter and/or Other Proximate Unknowns' is curated by Sinethemba Twalo for Nothing Gets Organised–NGO in conversation with the Foundation for Contemporary Art–Ghana.

The kick-off for the touring exhibition was by Foundation for Contemporary Art-Ghana at ifa Gallery Stuttgart with 'if we're happy in our dreams, does that count?'.

Exhibitions worldwide

With over 20 touring exhibitions currently travelling across the globe and with its diverse event programmes on contemporary art, the ifa links the German art scene with internationally active cultural creators and forms cooperations and networks. The projects, many of which were developed in co-creation with local partners, cover the various disciplines of modern and contemporary fine arts – from current themes in architecture, photography and design to Bauhaus and monographic exhibitions such as Rosemarie Trockel or Marcel Odenbach. These projects generate local meeting platforms and allow international perspectives on topics of global relevance. The ifa also provides loan exhibits to interested museums.
