Plastic bottles, for ketchup, washing-up liquid and household cleaning agents are shredded, melted and transformed into a monochrome weight-bearing board. Like an antimacassar or cover, this soft board is “thrown” onto the negative shape of the later chair. The modelling then takes place more or less automatically, as the soft material adapts to the given shape.

Beata Bär, Gerhard Bär, Hartmut Knell (Bad Wimpfen/Berlin) are Bär + Knell, an artists’ and design team operating since 1992. Their work focuses on the recycling of plastic waste. The designers’ works are represented in national and international private and public collections.
