Vandy Rattana (b. 1980 in Phnom Penh) began his photographic career with a concern for the lack of physical documentation on the stories, traits and monuments unique to his culture. Employing a range of analog cameras, his early serial works share a preoccupation for the everyday according to the average Cambodian.
Vandy’s recent works mark a shift in philosophy around on image-making and historiography; his practice evolving from engaged observation to active reconstruction of narratives.
