In the Carpet | Über den Teppich
Mostafah Maftah (*1957, Casablanca) lives in Casablanca and makes paintings, sculptures, drawings, installations and performances based on an interest in memories of people in public space. Maftah’s work is strongly influenced by the art of weaving, which he came to know as a child, inspiring him to “weave” his artistic and design ideas into a carpet. This art is destined to break with academic forms, as it displays no regular or traditional patterns but relies instead on completely free form. The motif is like a volcano erupting under the surface of the earth. As the title suggests, this is a “Feu En Océan“. In this way, Maftah makes use of traditional weaving techniques.
