The series by Uschi Huber shows urban architecture in a state of emergency. Huge sheets of plywood secure Cologne’s storefronts and apartment buildings in advance of an upcoming carnival parade. Doubled doors and entrances make the provisional protective layer passable. What results is a sculptural simplification and clarification of the architectonic forms that are inconspicuous in everyday life. The photographs leave questions as to the upcoming event and its effects unanswered, thereby eluding easy interpretation.
