forward motion, 2005, pigment prints

Nicola Meitzner has worked frequently in recent years in Asian centres. In her black and white photographs, arranged in a tableau, she compresses the Tokyo metropolis into an atmospheric blend of geographically specific architectonic structures and portraits of its inhabitants. The arrangement of images permits various kinds of readings, doing justice to the complexity of the urban environment. With the help of this construction, it is possible to create a description of Tokyo that goes beyond the touristic perspective.
