One after another, attractive young women seen in close-up shots incline their faces in slow motion towards the camera to kiss it. Their lipsticks leave visible imprints on the lens before the shot fades out. Having edited a sequence of more or less uniform movements of fairly similar-looking ‘beauty queens, Odenbach then inserts historical footage of public riots. Pictures of Venezuela’s political reality are superimposed on a dream world represented by the beautiful women. The female cult of beauty is refracted by a male-dominated world of violence that stains the kiss scenes, not unlike the lipstick smudging the camera.
