Linie Line Linea. Contemporary Drawing

In his drawings Gerhard Faulhaber uses Backscatter images of illegal immigrants on the border between Mexico and the USA. The immigrants are hiding between boxes in trucks and are not aware that they have been detected by this new imaging technology. Faulhaber takes the disturbing experience of people having to flee their homes and by transforming it into his drawings he bestows upon it a further symbolic significance. We also see high-rise buildings, arcades, a Turkish baths, an evening meal, a waiting room, an underworld, a death camp. The modulations of dark and light make these drawings seem like fading photographs. The people in them are shadowy figures gradually disappearing into a diffuse space, heading for the void.
