Yorgos Sapountzis (born 1976 in Athens) often takes monuments and structures in public space as the starting point for his work, temporarily and collectively activating these. His performances are recorded and then presented in exhibition spaces in the form of an installation together with textile materials from his actions. His video "Fast Cast Past" (2011) shows two works in public space in Berlin by the German sculptor Richard Scheibe, one from the year 1935 that presents a member of the "master race," and another from the postwar years that stands at the German Resistance Memorial Center. In a performance, Sapountzis covered the earlier work with colored materials and then took casts of it, while in the last shot of the video he just shows himself standing by the later sculpture.
