
In recent years the intensity of contact and the variety of cooperation between China and Germany have increased dramatically. China is now Germany’s most important economic partner in Asia and Germany is China’s most important trading partner in Europe. China is also very active in the field of foreign cultural affairs: in the last three years alone China has set up language and cultural institutes in 53 countries. By the year 2010 it plans to have several hundred such institutes in operation.
