Instruction and Methods

Course contents
All our courses cover the following fields of instruction:
Oral expression / speaking ability
Written communication
Listening comprehension
Reading comprehension
Instruction in grammar, spelling, vocabulary and pronunciation is a part of all of our courses.

Teaching Methods
Students are placed in groups corresponding to their level of proficiency. The obligatory placement test for intensive courses comprises a written and an oral test. A variety of teaching methods are used in lessons, including interviews, discussions and role plays with the whole class, in small groups or individually. Students contribute to the lessons by bringing their individual interests to the attention of the class. German is the language of instruction from the very beginning. Teachers set classroom tests and homework to assess each student’s learning progress.

Qualified Teachers
All teachers at the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen have university degrees and, in most cases, have completed a special training course in teaching “German as a foreign language.” Teachers are available to advise students on their learning progress.

Respect
We place great value on engendering mutual respect among students and teachers. This enables unique intercultural encounters to take place.
