Hurricane Matthew

In October 2016, Hurricane Matthew caused severe damage in Haiti. Hundreds lost their lives, houses were destroyed and fields flooded. Poor countries like Haiti suffer particularly from the aftermaths of such disasters. As a consequence of the hurricane, 1.4 million people relied on humanitarian assistance. In this context, ifa’s Funding Programme Humanitarian Assistance promoted projects that not only alleviate acute suffering, but aim at enabling the affected people to restore their livelihoods. For example, projects included the distribution of seeds and tools so people can resume farm work.
