Ifa showcases contemporary German artists and artists living in Germany by funding exhibitions of their work abroad. It supports individual exhibitions, group exhibitions and participation in international exhibition projects as well as biennales. Ifa also provides funding for exhibitions by foreign artists in Germany. The culture department of the German Foreign Office and ifa can provide information about funding.
Through the programme "Artists' Contacts," ifa supports cooperative ventures between German and foreign artists, architects and designers. It does this by subsidising travel costs and other expenses for artists from developing countries and countries in transition who are visiting Germany, and for German artists establishing contacts in countries in transition and developing countries.
