Apart from the building commission that resulted from the respective historic, social and economic contexts and required specific solutions, architects developed independent discourses about suitable contemporary form and design which would be relatively independent of material considerations and follow architecture's own laws. The personal design philosophy of the architets and their choice of means of expression was essentially influenced by their own artistic sensibilities and knowledge of current international developments, or the requirements of new production techniques, even in the face of constricted national ideological premises and socio-political systems in either East or West. Thus the whole range of these discourses only becomes evident when the concept, i.e. the paper-project, becomes part of the equation parallel to the completed structure.
