Dinh Q. Le

Born Le Quang Dinh in Vietnam near the Cambodian border in 1968, Dinh Q. Le emigrated to the USA with his family in 1978.
Having turned to photography already in his youth, he completed his studies in photography at the University of California in Santa Barbara before studying at the School of Visual Arts in New York.
Inspired by the traditional Vietnamese technique of weaving grass mats, he also transfers this method into his work. For this purpose, he interweaves image strips of his own photographs with historical and mythological motifs from Western and Vietnamese cultures, oftentimes also with packaging materials of commercial products: he thus dissects and analyses history, and creates new mythologies. His works, which are regarded as a mixture of the traditional and the contemporary, the sacred and the profane, have been presented in numerous solo exhibitions  in the USA, for example in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, as well as increasingly in Asia and Europe. He has received various prizes and grants, and lives and works in Vietnam and the USA today.
