Waheeda Malullah Born in 1978 in Bahrain; lives there. On two photographs, Waheeda Malullah portrays herself together with ten boys from the neighbourhood as if they were impatiently waiting for the permission to play football. The installation comprises the ten boys' white dresses in the room, her own black one is spread on the floor. She is present as a big as life dummy posing as a goalkeeper, wearing a red baseball cap on top of the head scarf, in front of the goal. Football, being Bahrain's national sport, is a starting point for the artist in order to examine her identity and the role as a girl and woman that has been imposed on her since her birth. For her, the rules of the game and the social mechanisms attached to them serve as a model and a structure for the staging of feelings and for the projection of desires. www.universes-in-universe.de/~
