Suha Shoman Born in 1944 in Jerusalem, Palestine (under British mandate); lives in Amman, Jordan. On the walls of rock of ancient cisterns, the interplay of thin stripes of light appears, reflected and set into a pulsating motion by the water. Few noises are audible: a deep breathing, dark rhythmic noises, birds' chirping. Suha Shoman's latest video work is a meditation on eternity and transitoriness that captivates us. "Life is eternal, we are fleeting embodiments of it, perpetually transformed and metamorphosed, never really 'disappearing'; assuming different dimensions, living forever." (Ica Wahbeh in a text about the artist) The images have been taken in Beida, a place with a history going back millennia, located north of the Nabataean town Petra, which has a special meaning to Suha Shoman as a mental and real refuge, as a source of artistic inspiration: "The Petra of our ancestors, where space is infinite, where time floats by, where eternity reveals itself to us, where our steps are deeply engraved into the rock and conceal a story that has yet to be told."
