Nur Hanim Mohamed Khairuddin Born in 1969 in Malaysia; lives in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. "Insects" are buzzing around the artist's face, are gradually taking the shape of a burqa, while a personal statement is shown. In a hectic rhythm, newscast and advertisement clips follow, a Malayan poem is recited, until finally Nur Hanim Khairuddin’s entire face becomes visible again. The artist, a Muslim herself, turns against the representation of Muslims in the Western media, which is characterised by negative stereotypes. At the same time, she is concerned with the conflict between a fascination for the West on the one hand and the fear of "Westernisation" and faith in religion and traditions on the other hand. "My video is a personal answer to contemporary radical political dialectics and social discourse unleashing uncertainties, dilemmas, predicaments, and dissatisfaction towards the absolute truth of the Islamic faiths." www.universes-in-universe.de/~
