Greece Foreign Cultural Policy
Responsibility for cultural affairs in Greece is divided between the public and private sectors; thus, it rests on the one hand with ministries and on the other with public or semi-public companies, with private institutions, and with the church. Responsibility for foreign cultural policy rests with the ministries of foreign affairs and of culture.
The Greek Culture Foundation was established in 1992; its mission is to spread and promote the Greek language and Greece's culture abroad. The Greek Culture Foundation comes under the authority of the Ministry of Culture. Its financing comes for the most part from the Ministry of Culture; the rest comes from sponsors. The work of the Foundation is performed by its branch offices, the Greek Institutes of Culture (currently there are six worldwide). The foundation is headquartered in Athens.
