Denmark Foreign Cultural Policy

Generally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture are charged with responsibility for cultural policy abroad. In 2001 the Ministry of Culture in a large part transferred the authority for international cultural relations to the Secretariat for International Culture. The Secretariat coordinated and acted in place of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in international cultural exchange activities, and contributed to the formulation and implementation of long-term policies in the area of international cultural cooperation. These responsibilities were transferred in 2003 to DanishArts. In addition, the Danish Cultural Institute, which was established in 1997, operates from its headquarters in Copenhagen, and it has more than ten branch offices throughout the world.
