Gesellschaft für deutsche Sprache e. V. (GfdS)
This German Language Society is politically independent and is involved in preserving and studying the German linguistic heritage. Since its foundation in 1947, it has promoted public awareness of the history and refinements of the German language and its global repercussions. The GfdS aims to monitor linguistic developments critically and to give recommendations for general usage based on linguistic studies.
The Society is funded by the German government (e.g. the commissioner for cultural affairs and the media) and by the federal state governments through the Kultusministerkonferenz (KMK, conference of the ministers of culture and education).
