Council of European Municipalities and Regions - CEMR
The German CELRA section is an association of ca. 830 proactively European German urban, local and regional authorities. It is represented on the committees of the International Union of Local and Regional Authorities with both seats and votes.
The top nationwide communal federations - Deutscher Städtetag (German Cities Council), Deutscher Städte- und Gemeindebund e.V. (German Association of Urban and Local Authorities) and the Deutscher Landkreistag (German Rural District Association) - are also members of the German CELRA section and have conferred to it the administrative responsibility for the funds provided by the Foreign Ministry for cultural exchange projects relating to communal partnerships.
In addition to acting as the communal representative (interest group) at the level of European institutions, one of CELRA's main tasks is to organise, promote and support communal partnerships. For this, the association organises its own conferences and seminars and advises on national and European sponsoring programmes for all types of partnerships.
