Coordinator of German-Russian Intersocietal Cooperation

Purpose/Activities

The assignment of the Coordinator of German-Russian Intersocietal Cooperation is to build up and receive the relationship between the people in Russia and Germany and their cooperation. His work also contains the strengthening of civil society to promote Russia’s development of democracy and the rule of law.

Focus areas of the Coordinator’s work are:

  • Nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) and their work. The Coordinator regularly meets representatives of NGOs and fosters closer links with German organizations.
  • Youth exchange. By this exchange mutually understanding of young people is focused. The Coordinator promotes this exchange by dialogue with politicians and representatives of civil society.
  • City twinnings. They add to the exchange of experiences and the appreciation between societies. City twinnings are supported by the coordinator’s work.
  • Education. It adds to mutually understanding of societies especially in the field of language. The Coordinator is thus keen to enhance the standing of the Russian language in the German school and university systems and actively promotes the spread of Russian language tuition.
