Purpose/Activities

The Österreichische Kulturdokumentation. Internationales Archiv für Kulturanalysen is a non-university institute for applied cultural research and cultural documentation founded in 1991. Applying an interdisciplinary approach, the institute documents, analyses and publicises national, European and international developments in culture, cultural policy and cultural research.

The main research topics include:

  • Cultural policy in Austria
  • National and European cultural policies
  • EU culture policy
  • Culture and employment, cultural job market, creative industries
  • Cultural diversity
  • Urban cultural policy

The Kulturdokumentation gives advice for cultural institutions, decision makers of cultural policy, administrative experts, academics, interest groups at home and abroad. It provides reports and expert opinions and organizes international symposiums, conferences, information events and workshops. The institute manages an extensive expert resources centre for cultural policy with a large stock of academic literature.
