The ties between Britain and Germany have been close for many years, with the two nations linked by strong bonds of culture and friendship. Today a year-long programme is being started to celebrate and explore the cultural connections between the two countries. The launch event: a big party in Berlin for Valentine’s Day featuring an artist doing live portraits, a comedian and DJs.

The launch party is just one of many events being held in Germany for the UK/Germany 2018 season. Exhibitions, seminars, online events and more are on the agenda. In the framework of the Berlinale Film Festival, which starts tomorrow, several events will be held. Examples include a workshop for film-makers on specialist aspects of directing and producing, or an evening of short films and discussions with Berlinale talents Georgia Oakley and Manon Ardisson.

The British Council has also published a collection of essays entitled "Crossing Points" for UK/Germany 2018 season. In the essays, eight authors reflect on German–UK connections in the face of Brexit.
