"Brookings – Robert Bosch Foundation Transatlantic Initiative" – that’s the name of the new initiative from Germany’s Robert Bosch Foundation and the Brookings Institution, an American think tank. At the opening event yesterday evening in Berlin, the institutions introduced themselves and presented their first joint study entitled "A Post American Europe and the Future of US Strategy ". The publication examines the involvement of the United States in Europe’s political past as well as possible reactions from decreasing US political involvement in Europe.

For 2017, the focus of the initiative will be on "resurgence of nationalism and xenophobia in European politics" with a comparative perspective on developments in the United States. The overall goals of the partnership are to build up and expand resilient networks, contribute to sustained dialogue between the United States and Europe, and to develop policy recommendations for some of the most pressing issues of our time. The initiative’s analysis papers and publications will inform debate on transatlantic issues for the benefit of policymakers and the public alike.
