Estonia has kicked off an international programme to celebrate both the first Estonian Presidency of the Council of the EU and the country’s centenary. The events – which will take place in more than 30 countries around the world in a one-and-a-half-year period – are designed to present the best examples of Estonian culture, science, entrepreneurship and digital innovation.

If anything, the programme is diverse and includes architects, musicians, film directors, artists and even universities. The first event took place on the past weekend: a performance by contemporary music group ensemble U with its "audience orchestra" concept at the Musiktheatertage festival in Vienna. Also, the first display of century-old characters by the street artist Edward von Lõngus is now arriving in Brussels; his graffiti characters can be brought to life via smartphones.

Many events abroad are in collaboration with partners, such as Konzerthaus concert hall in Berlin, the Bozar and Flagey centres for fine arts in Brussels, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC.
